Measuring Principle

"Methane molecules absorb light of a specific wavelength" — Molecular absorption spectrum

"The amount of light absorbed by a transparent medium (methane gas mass) is proportional to the thickness and concentration of the gas mass" — Beer-Lambert's law

According to these physical principles, a beam of light at a specific wavelength penetrates the methane gas mass. The concentration is measured by the degree of beam weakening, with unique selectivity for methane. Using a multi-reflection detection cell multiplies the detection sensitivity by allowing repeated laser passes through the measured gas.
