KS3ARG03D Series Solid State Angular Rate Sensor (Gyro)

The KS3ARG03D series solid state angular rate sensors are precision instruments designed to measure the rate of rotation. They incorporate advanced micromechanical electronic system (MEMS) technology chips that are developed through the implementation of bipolar metal oxide semiconductor (BIMOS) production process. Additionally, these sensors utilize a spherical grid arrangement of current carrier welding technology to ensure optimal performance.

Known for their high reliability and robust packaging, these sensors are equipped with a Self-Test function. This enables the gyro to perform Built-In Tests (BIT) to verify functionality while embedded within a system.

Operating Principle

The KS3ARG03D series operates on the basis of resonator gyro technology. At the core of the sensor's design are two polysilicon sensitive structures. Each one contains a high-frequency vibrating frame. These frames are driven electrostatically to resonate, forming the key elements necessary to measure velocity.

The frames' two outer ends incorporate a capacitance-sensitive structure. This structure is finely tuned to detect Coriolis forces that occur when the sensor experiences angular motion. As a result, an electric signal is generated, corresponding to the angular rate. This signal is then processed through an amplification stage and a modulation stage, ultimately producing an electrical output that is directly proportional to the angular velocity of the sensor.
