For a frequency output sensor, Honeywell produces the Accelerex RBA500 accelerometer. It is primarily used to supplement GPS navigation systems. It is an ideal choice where frequency output, high-g, small size, low power, and light weight are required.
The acceleration is measured as a function of the frequency difference between two vibrating quartz beams. The output is thermally compensated through an internal temperature sensor and Honeywell-supplied coefficients, providing delta Velocity directly to the user's system when integrated over time.
When external acceleration is input, the pendulum leaves the equilibrium position under inertial force. The differential capacitance value changes, and this electrical signal is output to the servo circuit. The amplified current signal restores the pendulum to equilibrium position through push-pull action. When the deflection angle is small, the current is approximately linear with input acceleration, allowing precise measurement.
