KS3ARG03D Series Solid State Angular Rate Sensor Overview

The KS3ARG03D series solid state angular rate sensor , also known as a gyro, is specifically designed for the precise measurement of angular rates. This sensor incorporates cutting-edge Micromechanoelectronic System (MEMS) technology , which utilizes sophisticated chips fabricated via the bipolar metal oxide semiconductor (BIMOS) technology production process. Additionally, it features an advanced spherical grid arrangement for current carrier welding technology, enhancing the sensor's overall reliability and ruggedness of the package.

A key feature of the KS3ARG03D series is the inclusion of a Self-Test function , which supports onboard in-machine detection, known as Built-In Test (BIT) . This function is critical for ensuring consistent performance and accuracy by allowing users to verify the sensor's functionality as needed.

Operating Principle

The operational core of the KS3ARG03D series angular rate sensors is the resonator gyro principle . Each sensor is comprised of two polysilicon sensitive structures that house a high-frequency vibrating frame. These frames are electrostatically driven and maintained in a state of resonance to act as the primary speed-measuring elements.

At either end of the vibrating frame, a capacitive-sensitive structure is positioned. These structures are finely attuned to detect the Coriolis motion that emerges when the sensor experiences an angular rate change. As a result of this detection, an electrical signal is generated and subsequently forwarded to the amplifying and modulating stages of the system. The output is then refined into an electrical signal that is directly proportional to the angular rate, providing users with accurate, real-time measurements of angular movement.
